Large Scale Network Capacity Maps

Distributed Generation
Energy Connections

Our distributed energy connection map helps to estimate available hosting capacity for connecting large-scale renewable generation projects to Centralines’ high-voltage (HV) network. By providing greater visibility of network capacity, it supports Aotearoa’s transition to sustainable energy.

For large-scale projects, contact us early in your planning process. Our team will work with you and your engineering consultant to ensure that your project aligns with the network requirements.

Large Scale Distributed Generation Hosting Capacity Map

The map provides indicative information about the network’s ability to accommodate additional distributed generation. It is based on modelling assumptions and represents a single point in time, so it should be used for early-stage planning only and not relied on for detailed feasibility studies.

High-voltage (HV) hosting capacity (large-scale): The hosting capacity view estimates remaining capacity on Centralines HV network and is intended to support large-scale generators with early site selection and network discussions.

Low-voltage (LV) visibility: The LV view provides improved visibility of capacity and constraints at the low-voltage level to support smaller connections, such as residential and small commercial solar. LV conditions can change quickly, so results should be confirmed through the connection application process.

Large Scale Spare Network Capacity Map

At Centralines, we focus on utilising the available network capacity where appropriate to keep our costs and our customers’ costs down and assist with maintaining a reliable service. Spare capacity refers to the unused capacity on our network that can be leveraged for future demand, helping to reduce or delay the need for expensive infrastructure upgrades.

As a customer looking to connect to Centralines’ network, understanding available or spare capacity in a specific location that will help you to determine Centralines’ ability to accommodate your connection, without the need for network upgrades.
