Centralines announces $1.56 million discount for CHB consumers

28 April 2020 - Central Hawke’s Bay (CHB) consumer-owned lines company, Centralines has announced a $1.56 million discount, which will be provided to its 8,264 consumers on their next power bill.

The annual discount has been brought forward this year to acknowledge and support the community in light of the current economic climate and unprecedented times.

Central Hawke’s Bay Consumers Power Trust Chair, Alistair Setter said the Trust is very happy with the performance of the staff, Board and management of Centralines.

“It is pleasing that the company has brought forward the line discount to support the consumers in our district in the face of challenging times with the severe drought and Covid-19. The discount is a result of sound financial management and, based on feedback from previous years, we know that this payment is really appreciated by consumers,” said Mr Setter.

Centralines Chair, Jon Nichols said Centralines is committed to supporting the Central Hawke’s Bay community, through safe asset management practices that deliver a nationally recognised reliable network.

“We do this through expanding the CHB network and investing in technology and network enhancements, while sponsoring a number of community services and providing employment opportunities,” said Mr Nichols.

All Central Hawke’s Bay power consumers connected to the Centralines network on 31 March 2020 will receive the discount.

Mr Nichols said consumers should keep an eye on their power bills during the rest of April and May to ensure they have received the discount.

“It will appear as a one-off Centralines credit on each consumer’s power bill, which is issued by their electricity retailer.

“The amount varies depending on how much electricity consumers have used over the past 12 months, and how many installation control points (ICPs) they have. However, a residential electricity consumer will receive on average $135 per ICP,” said Mr Nichols.

Consumers with questions about their discount, or if they haven’t received it by the end of May, should contact their electricity retailer in the first instance.
